I started working with wood full time in 1986. I am self-taught, which has allowed a sense of creative play to enter my work. Around 1990 I discovered that I could shape wood on the edge of a stationary belt sander. This realization was the birth of the technique I am still using today. The belt sander limited what I could do, so I started looking for other tools. Through my search, I found hand-held grinders and a selection of small sanders, which allowed me to take my designs even further. As a child, I loved spending time on and around water, which is reflected in my work today. I enjoy working with a variety of hardwoods, usually creating pieces with at least two contrasting woods.
